Esquina

Today I took a quick day trip to Lawrence, KS to pass out some race flyers with my dad. I have a love/hate relationship with this town since I am a MU fan, grimacing at every Jayhawk store, but I have to admit that I really like the town itself. The townies are layed back and the main street is lined with fun shops and interesting restaurants. By lunch time we were starving so we hit up a restaurant I had looked up (classic blogger right?) called Esquina. Oh man, it did not disappoint. They call themselves a "upscale taqueria" with a menu of interesting and veg friendly tacos like potato and chorizo tofu.

I ordered their fish taco a la carte with their special grilled corn on the cob. Mmmm, it was a food coma kind of a meal. The real star was the house salsa which was spicy but not too spicy. They make their own chips also, but I found them to be a tad too greasy (didn't stop me from eating them though :) ) Overall, I really liked this place. Simple concept but diverse options, can't wait to return!

The last photo would be my dad's massive burrito, which he also enjoyed!

If you happen to be in Lawrence as a non-Jayhawk fan, I suggest going here for a satisfying meal. If you are a Jayhawker, you only deserve taco bell. (I kid, I kid)

First Hot Yoga Experience

I am trying out a new yoga place in Kansas City called Yoga Fix. They are having a special new student package of one month unlimited yoga for $30! My first class was yoga flow, which was a slow paced class led by an Australian man that was really relaxing (maybe it was his accent? ;) ) I decided to try their hot yoga on Sunday afternoon, and let me tell ya, it kicked my booty!
I really didn't know what to expect, I brought the essentials I thought I would need - small towel, water bottle, mat - but this class was intense! I was sweating bullets 3 minutes into it and my mat eventually became a slippery mess (I need to get one of those mat blankets I spotted other yogi's using) The instructor was ruthless, but I liked how fast paced it was. I felt like I got a really good strength workout, something I am trying to add into my running training.

Someday maybe I will be at this level:

but right now I am at this level:

momma bear

today was lovely!
momma bear and poppa bear came to visit me and took me out for brunch. i kinda cheated the system and made reservations at two places so we could decide when we got there which one we were "feelin" (they were located right next door to each other.) we opted for brunch buffet at Wildflower in the CWE (who can resist a buffet?) and we were glad we did. although i have no photos, you can trust me when i say it was quite tasty, with entrees such as brie and spinach baked eggs, creme brulee french toast (omg) and a table full of tasty mini desserts (shots of mousse? yes please!)
after we filled our bellies, we headed back to my dorm to load up most of my "stuff" since i am leaving tuesday. i am sitting in my sad looking room right now and am sneezing off the hook due to the gross amount of dust that was hiding in the corners of my little abode.
after a quick jog around the hood, i am off to a little less dusty of a place, the library, for my last one on one study date with mon livre de francais.

love you momma!

study break

I just finished my 3rd final out of 6 (yes 6!) and do not have my next test until Monday so I thought it would be a good time to take a blog break.
Good news of the week:
I am finally feeling back to normal on my runs
My two hardest tests are over with
It's 80 degrees and sunny
My best friend turns 21 this weekend
I get to see my mommy for mother's day on Sunday
My last day of work is tomorrow
I got good feed back on my internship at Campus Kitchen
Last few days of living in a dorm forever!!!

Summer, oh how I have missed you!

PS - do you recognize this celeb?

Yes that would be me with the new star from Glee! We met him after his performance in Spring Awakening a few summers ago before he was tv famous! "Rachel" was also in the show but she was not as nice as him and sneaked out the back door to avoid the fans (boo!)

PSS- I have my next half marathon in exactly one month! I will be doing the Hospitol Hill 1/2 in June. This is supposed to be one of the hardest race courses because, as the name implies, it is very hilly!! I need to up my mileage when I get back home :)

first review!

On Saturday, I got to take a break and meet up with some fellow Saint Louis bloggers at Local Harvest Cafe for lunch. This cafe is located over by tower grove park and also has a grocery store down the street where you can buy local goodies. I ordered the farmer's market salad.

The best part of this maybe plain looking salad was the dressing and the beets hiding behind the fresh veggies.
Emily from health nut ordered a yummy looking sandwich on foccacia bread.

I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who appreciates local produce and vegetarian and vegan options. The place itself was a little small which can bug people, but I liked it because it gave it a very "neighborhood" vibe. I can't wait to return!
I also really enjoyed meeting local bloggers Emily (thank you for the photos!) and Iga.

Good luck to everyone with finals week, see you next Tuesday!

color of summer?

All from ModCloth.com has anyone every purchased something from here? reasonably priced and super cute!

Spring showers bring...

Palm trees?

SLU got into the summer spirit by kicking off the new month with palm trees. I found this to be hilarious, and of course had to snap a picture with my phone. Really?
Finals week officially begins tomorrow. I cannot express to you how tired of the classes I am taking, after these next 6 tests I will be so thankful to be done with this semester. Don't get me wrong, it has been nice to be busy and involved but 18 credit hours plus 20 hour work weeks just do not get along. Looking forward to summer vacation and a lighter load next semester!
Off to hit the library for some one on one time. Here is my check list, at least one thing is completed :)

Happy May Day!
